leave a comment »

every semester, there is “that” time where many students start to feel out of it because school is just piling up and life is not letting us have it easy..

i’m feeling like that right now……………………………………………………………………………………………. it’s a weird feeling.. and i don’t like it..

a day of surprises..

with one comment

Today was a pretty eventful day.. surprises.. actually 2..

In the late morning, I recieved a call from an unkown number. It is pretty much often the case but the fact is that I don’t get many phone calls over in AZ and those that I recieve I usually expect. This one was unexpected. At the end of the line, the voice said “Hey! It’s Brother Rob!” It was a real pleasant surprise. My youth pastor from 10 years ago calls me from out of the blue (I reason in my head that with God, nothing is out of the blue..) He chats with me about a couple of things but I’m pretty sure that it was re-affirming my decision to head home this summer. I wonder what he was thinking when he called me! I would love to somehow get to meet Rob, Sandy, and family again. They have been a strong, silent influence in my life..
The next surprise was not really a surprise but it was still unexpected in some way. I got my birthday present early!! I thank my lovely wife!! More about that later.. :)

I have to preach tomorrow at the preaching event so I’m determined not to play with my new toy and focus on God and His message for His people tomorrow.. :) Hebrews 12:4-11 “God’s View of Discipline”.

stumbled on this post by chance and i’m interested in to see how he explains each point. i have told many others before that it is amazing to me how any photographer can deny God

…as i look through my camera to capture at one moment His creation, i am awed at His power & majesty..

Spring Break @ the Wills

leave a comment »

God has been good to us. everytime we have an extended holiday of sorts, He has provided us some way of getting out of the dorm for a couple of days. over this spring break, Andrew and Heidi went over to CA and asked us to watch their place.. and we said…

“of course we’d love to!!”

it’s been a great time of getting caught up with work, reading, sleeping (read like waking up at noon almost) everyday, and just taking it slow.. watched Amazing Grace yesterday too – the story of William Wilberforce and his fight for the abolition of slavery. it was a pretty cool movie! i especially like the bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace”..

it has been real fun for us over at the Wills.. we just want to remember and thank them for their hospitality..

A Fork in the Road

leave a comment »

i remember giving an illustration on goals in one of my sermons.. it was a story from Alice in Wonderland..

When Alice comes to a junction in the road that leads in different directions, she asks the Cheshire Cat, “Cheshire-Puss…would you tell me please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on where you want to go to,” said the Cat.

“I don’t much care where,” replied Alice.

“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”

problem is.. Sometimes you know do where you are going and the fork in the road eventually ends up in the same place. But the choice before you now is which path to take.. That is something like what i am feeling now.. i believe that God has a way for dency and i, and i do want to see His leading in this matter..

please pray that God’s hand of guidance be on our lives as we seek His wisdom as we come to this fork in our lives..

it’s been an interesting time.. a week with Evangelist Mike Redick..

leave a comment »

i must say that after the Holiness Conference, i was prepared to just come back to school and slog like i deserved it for taking a week of school! but then dency and i had the pleasure of having the company of a man that we had not seen in a looooong time.. back then he was Pastor Mike, but i guess now he’s Pastor Evangelist Mike Redick..

it was a great time of fellowship – lotsa coffee, bookstores, and catching up on something like 10+ years of lost fellowship.. even saw God protect him in an accident here! he’s added a couple of white hairs to his head but not just that because i found myself talking to man that had seen God’s work with his very own eyes, a man convinced and sold out for the cause of Christ – if anything, he has inspired me to know God’s power for myself, to see God work for His glory!

well.. i look forward to seeing him and sis lisa again soon! then we can have more of that “starbucks” theology..

“On Parenting..” Quote

“Parents should bring up their children for the work of the ministry, unless God calls them for work in the world.” – Pastor Mike Redick.

somewhere along the way, i think most have got it mixed up. i know that many parents ensure that their kids can make it out in the world first before they consider the ministry.. it’s been interesting how God has been bringing people (both old and new) into my life to show me His ways.. will restrain from leaving on a rabbit trail to keep this post true to it’s title.. still have not written about Falls Baptist Church & the Holiness Conference.. and more about Pastor Mike… :)
